We did a shoot yesterday and my camera guy gaffes and shot in LP. The audio when played back in my deck was spiky, glitchy and I was horrified. I wondered how we went from perfect in head phone sound to audio armageddon.

This is no filter to fix this and panning right or left just made it worse. I called the client and suggest we re-shoot. It was then that I saw the LP on the LED display and I thought Nooo, nobody shoots in LP mode.

A light bulb went off , and I was then able to recapture the footage from an XL2 playing it back in my Canon GL1 used as a deck. Yes it took a few more minutes but it’s better than doing a complete re-shoot on your own dime.

Record heads are very specific when you record in LP mode, it is like recorded on a different section of the tape in addition to slowing the tape rate. Unless you use the camera as your deck and absolutely need to save tape on a shoot I would never shoot in LP mode.

Repeat after me, I shall never shoot in LP mode. My work is done here.

So I make videos and recently I shot HD footage for a client. HD footage is a big file format even after you convert it to a windows media file.  I use flip4mac be Telestream to do the conversion. Telestream also has great product support also.  Once the files were converted however I could not send them to anything FAT32 in structure for it will not accept a file bigger then 2-4 gb. My files aree 8gb and 5 gb.  So I needed something.

I hunted the Apple forums with no luck, then made the genius appointment (with dred usually reserved for the dentist) and off I went. The Apple store was packed and genius Bob helped me. He then went into the back room, to quarry with the other Geni.

I followed Genius Bob’s advice and reformatted my Sandisk cruzer for NTFS. I then transferred the files from my Mac to the 16gb thumb drive and then over to my windows 7 and voila it worked great.
